I have just now started playing the guitar and I was discussing with the teacher this very thing and he was telling me about some of them but he didn’t say that they included that much stuff. I will be looking for an RG package when I go to purchase one do you have any idea where I should go to find the best deal? I also like the idea of the Les Paul as well though, can you tell me which one would possibly be the cheapest? Are there any acoustical guitar packages that are available anywhere that you are aware of? I appreciate this article and I am super excited about get my new guitar. I am going to continue to do some comparison shopping but I think this article has shown me what I want to do.

I have never used an electric guitar before, I have always played the acoustical type. But after reading your blog I am going to have to give it a try. The packages that are offered with the electric guitars are much better than the acoustical guitars but that is probably because they require more equipment to make beautiful music than a acoustical guitar does. Thank you so much for this information I am going to research the different packages and such for the RG before I make a decision but your article has helped me get focused in the right direction.

Now this kit is something I will seriously consider buying. I have always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I love music, but I have to confess that this is a skill I have wanted to have for the female woo factor at parties. I’m sure I am not the first person ever to want to play the guitar to attract members of the opposite (or same) sex. Many rock stars started playing the guitar for the same reason. There ain’t no shame in that. This also would make a fantastic holiday gift for someone who loves to perform, but you better make sure they want to play the guitar. Otherwise, if they’re not that passionate about playing the guitar, it would be a waste of money or they will probably re gift it in the future.

A couple of my grand kids are learning to play the guitar. I’m glad to know you’re around! See ya when they get a little better!

Well I am definitely a beginner so this package is right up my alley. My instructor tells me that he thinks I am naturally talented but I wouldn’t bet on that. I am going to research the RG package first and see if it is everything I want before making any kind of purchase, as you know guitars are not exactly cheap. And in response to Carlos about playing the guitar to pick up chicks, I thought they all liked the sax players and the drummers. Anyway thanks for the information and I wish Carlos the best.

Back in the early 1980s, when Gibson started weight relieving the Les Paul models, there was not a specific rhyme or reason to the weight-relief holes. But recently, Gibson has refined the process considerably. Not many players today like to struggle with the back-breaking weight of an overly heavy guitar, but fewer guitar players realize that relieving the load can very often also have positive consequences on an instrument’s sound. Gibson first put unseen routes, or chambers, in some Les Paul bodies purely as a weight-reduction measure at a time when adequately light stocks of mahogany were difficult to come by. Now a days, the craftsmen at Gibson take a more holistic view of the construction process, with the awareness that every change to the formula will have repercussions on an instrument’s sound. The result is a synchronicity of weight and tone that benefits the customer from whichever angle you approach it.

      Hey Lyle,

Thanks for the insight into weight-reduction holes. I definitely appreciate a light guitar, but I had a custom telecaster once with a hollowed body and it made the sound round and flabby. I hated it!

I was just reading an article on the Squier Fat Stratocaster and the benefits of having one of them as your first guitar. I was looking for one to get my son for Christmas and I want one that comes with a beginners package like you are discussing in your article, do you know if the Squier comes with a beginner package? Maybe instead I should go with the RG sense you already stated that it comes with one. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me that will help me make this difficult decision. I want something that he is going to enjoy playing and that is going to last him a while and will still sound good when he starts playing the more difficult music.

I took a look at the topic about how long it takes to learn to play the guitar. This is something I have always wanted to learn. I don’t expect to become good enough to play guitar in a band; I don’t want to practice that many hours. I just want to be able to play basic or the more popular rock ballads. I just want to become proficient enough at tuning, using chords, fingering, and reading music. I never did learn how to read music, so I guess I am way behind. I hope a beginner package comes with some sort of multimedia lesson program that I can use to train.

I am looking to get my grandson a guitar for Christmas, if I order one on-line how soon do you think I could get it? What is a reasonable price for a beginner package on one of these listed in your article? Which package would you recommend for a beginner? His teacher was telling me that he thinks he is naturally talented, but just between you and me that is what all teachers tell you. I want him to be able to play the guitar I get him for many years to come so I want one that he can get attachments for later on like a Wah pedal and other such things. Can you please offer any advice you might have as to which one would be the best?
